Mr. John Ray Mattina, 81, of Biloxi, MS, passed over Saturday, January 12, 2008, in Biloxi. Ray was a lifelong resident of Biloxi. He loved to hunt, fish and eat. He served in the U.S. Navy, WWII, on a mine sweeper in the Mediterranean Sea between Europe and North Africa. He was a past commander of VFW Post 2434 and a member of American Legion Post 119. He was a licensed layreader at the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer where he was a member of the vestry and president of St. Anthony's Society. Ray was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Felix N. Mattina and Anna Leona Bosarge Mattina; brothers, Felix N. Mattina, Jr., and Earl Mattina; sisters, Margarette E. Mattina and Verna Mae Mattina Galle, and daughter, Jane Beth Mattina. Ray is survived by his wife, Norma; daughters, Cassandra Griswold (Fred), and Phyllis Gigl (David); grandchildren, Elizabeth Griswold Joachim, Fred Griswold, IV, Candice Gigl Marsalis and David Gigl, Jr., and ten great-grandchildren. Ray's love, sense of humor and smile will be missed by family and friends. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 18, 2008, at 2. p.m. at Biloxi City Cemetery.
