John: You have made significant contributions to this web site, thanks very much. I think it might be an interesting project for someone to use the "Map of Plantations on the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans 1858" to search for Usticesi families who purchased parts or all of these after 1858 to the present day. I recently spoke with Charlie Giardina, the plantation that you are speak ing of is the "La Branche" in St. Rose. Parts of it were owned by Joseph and Charles Barbera, and Angelo Palmisano who was married to Angelina Barbera, where their children, John, Estelle Calderara and Louise were raised. The Giardina's on the Westbank of the Mississippi lived in the famous "Seven Oaks" Plantation home near Nine Mile Point. The Anthony Mumphrey family, the Anthony Bertucci family also owned land along the river at Nine Mile Point. Down in Mereaux, there were other plantations that were purchased by Usticesi. My grandfather, Joseph Barbera bought part of the Arnoult Plantation in Jefferson. There are many more families that lived in the plantation homes and/or farmed the land. Chris Caravella has lots of genealogy work that needs to be done. If it is not done soon, much o f the history of the heritage of Usticesi will be lost. There is so much out there to research and record that would help to preserve the contributions of Usticesi in this area in the 19th and 20 centuries.
