First, I know better: In my excitement at finding Charles, I forgot to look on the next page of the census, and sure enough, there are two more children in Charles "Mooney's" family:
_ Elizabeth Mooney; Age 2, Female; Birthplace California.
_ Charles Mooney; Age 1, Male; Birthplace California.

Next, using the Caravella technique of browsing all the Italians, I found a SECOND Joseph Money in Columbia in 1860.Take a close look at these two families. One of them lived four doors down from Charles, the other was 8 pages away, but both in Columbia.

My gg-grandfather, Joseph Desimone:
1860 US Census, California, Tuolumne County, Township 2, Post Office: Columbia, Page 97. Enumerated 2nd July 1860 by JJFranklin. [Roll: M653_71, Pg 281]
Dwelling 1696 Family 1554
Joseph Moon ey Age 31, Male, Occupation Miner; Value of Real Property [blank], Value of Personal Property [blank]; Birthplace; Italy.
Mary "Age 21,Female; Birthplace Germany.
Salvadore " Age 2, Male; Birthplace California.
Christina " Age 0/12,Female; Birthplace California.
*******Four doors up is Charles "Mooney" & family.

WHO IS THIS?
1860 U S Census, California, Tuolumne County, Township 2, Post Office: Columbia, Page 88. Enumerated on 29 June 1860 by JJFranklin(Roll: M653_71, Pg 272)
Dwelling 1525 Family 1599
Joseph Mooney Age 29, Male; Occupation Miner; Value of Real Property [blank], Value of Personal Property $200; Birthplace Italy.
Mary "Age 20, Female; Birthplace Germany.
Salvadore " Age 3, Male; Birthplace California.
Califonia "Age 1/12, Female; Birthplace California.

Two families couldn't be much more similar, could they?Next, I'm going to try to figure out who the second Joseph was.
